About Working Assets
Our Mission
Working Assets was founded in 1985 to help you make a difference in the world by
doing the things you do every day. Each time you use one of our services — CREDO
Mobile, CREDO Long Distance or the Working Assets Credit Card — we automatically
send a donation to nonprofit groups working for peace, equality, human rights and
the environment. To date, we’ve raised over $60 million for progressive causes.
But we’re not just donating money, we’re making change. Our CREDO Action Web site
gives you the resources you need to stay up to date and speak out for the causes
you support.
Donations
Whenever you call with us, we donate 1% of the charges to the nonprofits we support.
Each time you make a purchase with our credit card, we donate 10 cents. These contributions
are made at no cost to you.
Causes
The donations we generate go to nonprofit organizations working around the world
for civil rights, economic and social justice, the environment, and peace and international
freedom. Over the years we’ve supported groups like the ACLU, Greenpeace, Doctors
Without Borders, Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and Planned Parenthood, to name a

Who decides where the money goes? Our members play an important part. Every year,
we ask you to nominate nonprofit groups to receive funding. We evaluate the nominees,
then our employees and board of directors select the groups for our annual donations
ballot. Customers vote to decide how much money each group gets.
Activism
We not only offer great services. We’re also one of the most powerful citizen-action
groups in the nation.
In every phone bill, we update you on vital issues and give you easy ways to speak
out — with a free call or a low-cost advocacy letter sent on your behalf. We explain
what’s at stake and encourage you to make your voice heard. Every month, our members
generate over 80,000 calls and letters to Congress, the White House and corporate
leaders regarding decisions of critical public concern.
And that’s just part of the story. Through our online activism network, we enable all concerned citizens to speak out on causes they believe in. In the past year, CREDO members sent millions of messages to targeted decision-makers and won important victories for our nation. We supported the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which guarantees victims of wage discrimination a reasonable period to file a claim. We urged Congress to extend healthcare coverage to millions of low-income children. And we helped shut down over 30 coal-fired power plants.
To further strengthen our democracy, we helped 2.5 million Americans register to vote and organized our landmark Election Protection program of volunteers, who fanned out across the U.S. to monitor polls and guarantee free and fair elections.

Nonprofits and political organizations interested in a unique fundraising and mobilization
tool should ask about Working Assets' CREDO Mobile partnership program. Partner
organizations contract with CREDO Mobile to design and market a mobile phone service
customized to appeal to the organization’s supporters. A percentage of customer
charges are directed to the partner organization. Plus the service provides opportunities
for supporter mobilization, such as bill messages and mobile-text activism. For
