The easy, effective
way to make your voice heard.
These days it seems you need a million bucks to get a politician’s attention.
But there is still a political force more powerful than a million dollars:
a million voices. Last year over 1 million Working Assets members targeted
politicians and business leaders with CitizenLetters and Free Speech calls.
And they got results.
Here’s where Working Assets members are making an impact this month:
Coal-Power Plants
Iraq War
NASA Goddard Director James Hansen says halting coal-fired power plants
unequipped with carbon-control equipment is "the most critical action
for saving the planet at this time." Just one uncontrolled coal plant
will spew billions of pounds of greenhouse gases over its 50-year
lifespan. Reps. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Ed Markey (D-Mass.) have
introduced HR 5575, the Moratorium on Uncontrolled Power Plants Act, to
stop any new coal-power plants built without technology to capture and
sequester CO2 emissions.
Urge your representative to support HR 5575
and take a vital step toward slowing global warming.

The Bush plan for Iraq is this: prolong the mess and leave the problem
to the next president. That's not a responsible strategy. This is: the
Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq, developed by military officers
who have served in the war and endorsed by many congressional
candidates. It would start immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops, boost
diplomacy in the region and deploy international peacekeeping forces if
needed. It would also end some of the ugliest outgrowths of this war. It
would ban torture, limit government surveillance of citizens and
encourage media independence.
Urge your representative to publicly endorse
the Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq.
