At CREDO Mobile, we believe green is good. Our goal is to grow our business with
minimal impact to the planet. Here’s how we’re keeping it green.
Citizen activism
With our members, we’ve stood up to Bush’s environmentally destructive administration
and mobilized grassroots support on critical issues. We pushed Congress for the
first increase in fuel-economy standards in 23 years. We helped stop the construction
of 30 coal-fired power plants and have been fighting for more than two decades to
prevent the despoiling of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. And our citizen activism
movement continues to lobby for national legislation to address global warming and
a switch to alternative energy sources.
Donations to environmental groups
CREDO members have helped generate more than $10 million for groups like Greenpeace,
Rainforest Action Network, NRDC, Ocean Conservancy and Earthjustice. And since 1985
we’ve donated $60 million to progressive nonprofits fighting for peace, human rights,
voting rights and economic justice and the environment.
Carbon offsets
CREDO Mobile is the first mobile phone company to be certified by carbonfund.org
for offsetting the estimated electricity use and shipping of every mobile phone
that goes to our customers (based on analyses from carbonfund.org).
Solar power
CREDO Mobile was the first U.S. mobile phone company to offer solar-powered phone chargers to its customers.
Recycling phones
CREDO Mobile has helped keep more than 25,000 phones out of landfills by partnering
with CollectiveGood, an organization that recycles used phones. We send CREDO Mobile
members a prepaid CollectiveGood envelope with each new handset so they can quickly
and easily mail in their old phone(s).
Refurbished phones
CREDO Mobile’s refurbished phones are made from reused parts that provide an environmental benefit both by reducing electronic waste and by reusing existing materials.
Recycling paper
We’ve planted over 2.5 million trees to cover our paper use over the years (by donating
$700,000 to tree-planting organizations). We also print our bills on 100% post-consumer
recycled paper with soy-based, non-toxic ink.
Plastic with purpose
Working Assets offers a credit card that plants a tree every time you gas up plus
donates 10¢ to alternative energy groups. Click here for more information.
